Brockley Society welcomes new volunteers at any time, but as a priority we currently need to begin reducing the workload for Clare, our current Chair. We have identified two specific roles that would make a great contribution to beginning this process.
Secretary for Brockley Society
We need a new to volunteer to take on this role and become a trustee of Brockley Society!
For several years we have had no secretary to do deal with Brockley Society’s admin issues and this has suffered by falling inadequately on to the Chair. We run a variety of projects, and as a result of this shortage of administrative support, even active members of Brockley Society are not necessarily aware of them all. Current trustees each lead at least one project and do not have capacity to take on this role.
Are you interested in supporting the success of Brockley Society? Is one of your own skills helping organise people and processes? Do you get satisfaction from ensuring that ideas become reality? Then you could be just who we are looking for! Please see the Job Description for an overview of the role, which we estimate would require a basic commitment of around 4-8hrs per month.
If you are interested, or would like to find out more, please contact us at chair@brockleysociety.org.uk.
Distribution coordinator for Brockley Society’s newsletter
Brockley Society newsletter has been delivered to every house in the Brockley Conservation Area (and beyond to the best of our abilities) three times a year since 1974 — almost unbroken for 50 years. Amazingly, it is hand-distributed by a group of nearly 50 volunteers in March, June and November. This is an admin task that could be handled by someone who has limited time but would like to make a contribution to their community and gain an intriguing insight into our area and its community.
The role involves the following:
Three times a year (once newsletters arrive from the printer):
a) Email the existing deliverers to see if they can continue for the next issue (1.5 hours)
b) Appeal for replacements if necessary (usually via the Chair’s circular email)
c) Update and print the 50-odd labels (1.5 hours)
d) Coordinate with the volunteer(s) who count the 50-odd bundles of newsletters (1.5 hours)
e) Email the deliverers to tell them their bundles are ready for collection (from Tyrwhitt Road or Upper Brockley Road)
f) Coordinate with the person who does the distant drop-offs
