DESCRIPTION:Meet outside Pistachio’s Hilly Fields Cafe. Walk through Brockley Conservation Area and several mews\, ending at the Wickham Arms\, SE4 1TF \nBrockley Conservation Area is an unusually well preserved enclave of architectural and environmental history that has survived into the 21st century almost intact. By the 1870s ‘Upper Brockley’ was laid out with wide streets and large Italianate villas backed by free-access mews service lanes. The unique environment was created to respond to the alignment of former country lanes\, field patterns\, footpaths and streams. \nGillian Heywood received her MBE for Service to our Community. She has been a particularly tireless and formidably well-informed defender and campaigner.

Bring your memories and photos!\n\nFor over 40 years\, from 1973 until 2016\, Lewisham Way Youth & Community Centre provided a safe place for black young people to come together: a place of refuge and joy during the 1970s\, 1980s and beyond. A commercial building now\, but with a history worthy of celebration.\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us to salute and celebrate the Centre’s vital role as part of Lewisham’s cultural heritage for the Borough of Culture 2022. \n\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Young men in the Centre made a short film about street violence. SUMMARY:Brockley Society AGM and 'Prefab Museum' talk by Jane Hearn
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Lucas Vale Primary School\, SE8 4QF (access from Lucas St or Tanner’s Hill).\nLocal resident Jane Hearn will give a brief presentation about the fabulous online Prefab Museum (‘Celebrating Britain’s post-war prefabs and their residents’) which she co-founded. Locally\, dozens of prefab dwellings were erected on Hilly Fields in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. Numerous local residents grew up in these\, before they were finally removed in the mid 1960s. \nThe talk will be followed by the Brockley Society 2021 AGM at which we will present yearly accounts\, hear brief reports on our projects\, and elect Officers and Committee members. \nIn preparation for the meeting\, you can read the report on Brockley Society’s Planning Group activity over the past year here. \nWe welcome interest from anybody in our community wishing to stand as an Officer or join one the sub-committees. These webinars also bring together a range of expert guest speakers to discuss the landscape for retrofit and practical solutions on how you can get started with your home. \n\n\n\n\n

Collaborating with other local groups? Interested in Breakspears Mews Community Garden or other green spaces?\nLewisham Borough of Culture 2022 — ideas so far: a Brockley literary festival\, a carnival procession at the 2022 Hilly Fields Fayre; celebrate the first Anglo-Caribbean Social Club in Breakspears Road; recreate the 2015 mass photo on HIlly Fields; specific history projects; a rounders tournament on Hilly Fields … bring your suggestions\nBrockley Society is a registered charity.
